Beginning Band Resources

Helpful Videos for New Band Class Students

Try these fun videos with your beginning band! The first couple weeks of band are hard. I only see my students twice a week. It is a lot to process in the beginning…holding an instrument, reading the notes on the staff, learning an embouchure, tracking the music in a book. I’ve created these videos to help simplify the first few days of band class. Each song has a letters only version and a staff version. Students can play the letters only versions first, then try the reading the notes once they are confident.

All of these songs and many more are on my YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@makingmusicclassfun136

Solos and Ensembles for Beginning Band

Finding elementary band music can be challenging. There have been times I have just written or arranged songs so my students have something to play at their level with appropriate range and rhythms. Here are some solos and ensembles that might be helpful for other directors in a beginning band position.
